GYA
Architects, Inc. is a locally owned firm offering master planning,
architectural design, graphic design, and interior design services.
Established in 1969, we understand the challenges and advantages of
living and doing business in an ever-changing Hawaii. GYA Architects,
Inc. began as a Maui branch of Architects Hawaii, Ltd. (AHL).
In 1983, after 15 years of operation and under the leadership of Stanley
Gima and Alvin Yoshimori, the company dissolved ties with AHL and
became known as Gima Yoshimori & Associates, AIA, Inc.
The company flourished, and in 1989, Richard Miyabara was promoted
to principal; followed, in 1990, by Wes Deguchi, who was made manager
of the firms new Honolulu office. Reflecting these additions,
Gima Yoshimori renamed itself Gima Yoshimori Miyabara Deguchi Architects,
Inc. also known as GYA Architects, Inc. As the Honolulu office expanded,
Lawrence Ueki was brought on board and became a principal in 1993.
Our clients include both state and local municipalities, the Department
of Education, the University of Hawaii, the U.S. military,
major corporations, as well as private developers, individuals,
and non-profit organizations. Some of our notable projects are the
Hawaiki Towers, MSSS 4-Meter Telescope Facility, the Maui Research
and Technology Center Phases I and II, the Diamond Resort, Hale
